Jacqueline du Pré & Friends: Schubert’s Trout Quintet (1969)

The Trout: Franz Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major (D. 667) (the “Trout Quintet”) is performed here by Daniel Barenboim (piano), Jacqueline du Pré (cello), Itzhak Perlman (violin), Pinchas Zuckerman (viola), and Zubin Mehta (bass). This Christopher Nupen film documentary might just be the gold standard recording of Schubert’s piece; the performance took place at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, England, on August 30, 1969. All soon became acclaimed and respected international performing stars.
