André Laplante:Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No. 1




The Canadian pianist André Laplante performs Franz Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No. 1, S.514, which Liszt composed between 1859 and 1862; the first, Der Tanz in der Dorfschenke (The Dance in the Village Inn) is probably the most popular of the four Mephisto waltzes that Liszt composed, all inspired by the "Faust" of Nikolaus Lenau [1802-1850], the pseudonym of Austrian-born German Romantic poet.
