Photo of the Day

Herman Wouk [born on May 17, 1915 in the Bronx neighborhood of New York City] as he looked when he served in the navy as an officer during the Second World War, after the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor in December 1941. He served for two years aboard a minesweeper called the Zane. The Library of Congress writes: “He took part in eight Pacific invasions, earning several battle stars. During the long months at sea, he began to write. His first novel, “Aurora Dawn,” came out in 1947 and it was an immediate success. It was followed by “City Boy” (1948), a semi-autobiographical story of a Bronx boy.” For more, go [here] and [here] and [here] and [here] and [here].
